The Harbour Grace Affray
Oct 23, 2011
Harbour Grace is my hometown and that led me to research and write about the relationship of people who were affected by an awful event, a religious riot, which occurred there on St. Stephen's Day, December 26th, 1883. This story is my attempt to humanize a very tragic story and, not to erase, but to help us understand our roots and why we are a better and more tolerant group than ever before. Author Patrick Collins
Ed Burry/Clinch: The Pillar of Trinity
Oct 01, 2011
Ed Burry is the author of Clinch: The Pillar of Trinity, a not to be missed read about John Clinch, who came to Newfoundland from England in 1775, and worked at both a physician and Anglican priest. A friend of Edward Jenner, discoverer of the smallpox vaccine, Clinch administered the first vaccine in British North American to his patients in Trinity. Get to know the all too human Clinch as the author explores the life and times of Trinity's beloved medical missionary. T his is a story never before told.
Ed is also the author of The Loop, an adventurous and dramatic story that begins in Goose Cove, Trinity Bay. The Loop is being developed as a play by Rising Tide Theatre in Trinity.
Marshall Godwin/Belle Maro
Sep 20, 2011
Marshall Godwin is the author of Belle Maro, a book set in his hometown of Belleoram, Fortune Bay, Belle Maro is a sweeping historical novel that traces three centuries of cross cultural contact and relations between the Beothucks and the European settlers who came to Newfoundland. The book asks the question "Does Beothuck blood flow in the veins of Newfoundland people?" Maybe, says the author, "But the story or stories of how it might have gotten there remains forever veiled. Belle Maro is one possible story, one imagining...a peek through the veil."
